252 Monroe St. & Pulse
Headed out to a couple of spots on this night expecting to hear some nice sounds.
The first stop was a new night being done by Craig Huckaby, Malik Alston and Gabe Gonzalez (drummer for P-Funk). These three are known more for their live instrumentation skills, but can now be found behind the decks mixing their favorite tunes. On this night you will everything from old funk records to afro beat house music. Occasionaly Malik, Craig and Gabe will tap into their roots and play their instruments live. The night they host (3 weeks young) is located in Greektown. Just look for the purple door on Monroe street that says ‘Psychic Readings’ and go upstairs.
I left this night early to head over to Pulse Lounge where another weekly night called Hot Pot was happening. Guy Lafleur and Todd Weston have been hosting some great Detroit talent for months. This week featured Craig Gonzalez. It was a night of deep house music. Craig started off deep and moving his was into some jazzier grooves.
